Iranian ‘Mandatory’ to compete at the US fest

Iranian ‘Mandatory’ is to compete at the 2021 Santa Fe Film Festival in the US.

Iranian short flick ‘Mandatory’ has been selected to compete at the 21st edition of the Santa Fe Film Festival in the US.

Written and directed by Mohammad-Javad Khoursha, the short title narrates the story of a soldier in firing squad who has been caught in a dilemma.

Between morality and work responsibility, he does not know which one to pick.

Soheil Karamyar, Soheil Qannadan, Armin Boshrouyeh, and Fatemeh Radmanesh are among the cast members of the flick.

The short film has participated in a number of film festivals, including the 6th TweetFest Film Festival in the UK, the 2020 Visioni Corte Film Festival in Italy, the 2020 Ojai Film Festival, the 2020 Charlotte Film Festival, the 6th Burien Film Festival, all in the US, as well as the 2020 Vancouver Island Short Film Festival in Canada.

A statement published on the website of the festival reads, “Our annual event honors everyone working both on and off screen to bring the best of film creation, production and showings to the public. We constantly seek improvement in our line of respective crafts and provide filmmakers with resources to pursue their dreams further”.

The 2021 edition of the Santa Fe Film Festival is slated for February 17-21.
